The People Traits Assessment Reveals How a Candidate Engages with Others on the Job
The People Traits section of the Aptitude Assessments measures a candidate's natural comfort with people-facing work. Because these are behavioral preferences rather than skills, the scores reflect how a person genuinely engages with others on a daily basis.
What Are People Traits?
The People Traits section groups the behavioral traits that measure a candidate's natural comfort with interpersonal work.
These are preferences, not skills. The scores reveal how naturally a candidate gravitates toward connecting with, responding to, and sustaining relationships with the people around them on the job.
Why People Traits Are Invisible in Interviews
Candidates naturally present their most socially engaged version of themselves in an interview. They make eye contact, ask questions, and demonstrate warmth. This performance tells you very little about how the same person will behave six months into the role, when novelty has worn off and daily interaction feels like effort rather than opportunity.
What People Traits Help You Evaluate Before You Hire
A candidate can be trained on process, script, and product knowledge. Behavioral comfort with people-facing work cannot be trained in. Use the People Traits results to confirm that the interpersonal demands of the role are a natural fit, not a developmental goal.
Why People Traits Matter in Pre-Employment Screening
Skills and experience tell you what a candidate can do. People Traits tell you how they will behave once the work becomes routine, which is where most people-facing hires either settle in or quietly disengage.
Role Fit
Candidates low in people comfort disengage from daily interactions as the role's novelty wears off. Performance drops and turnover follows before the behavioral cause is ever identified.
Early Turnover
Most candidates placed outside their natural people comfort level leave within the first year. The stated reason is usually workload or opportunity, not the behavioral mismatch at the root of the exit.
Interview Gap
Every candidate performs well socially when they are being evaluated for a position. The People Traits section measures whether that warmth reflects genuine comfort or interview behavior.
How a People Trait Mismatch Shows Up on the Job
The pattern rarely appears during onboarding. Instead it emerges once the role settles into routine, and each symptom below gets attributed to something other than behavioral fit.

Behavioral Traits That Predict Interpersonal Performance on the Job
Each trait measures a specific dimension of how naturally a candidate engages with the people around them. Together they produce the People Traits score used in both Aptitude Assessments.
Understand Human Nature
Measures the candidate's insight into how people respond to situations and what outcomes are likely when they follow certain paths.
Know How to Deal with People
Reflects the candidate's knowledge of how to influence and engage people positively across workplace interactions.
Customer Service Strength
Measures the candidate's knowledge and most likely ability to work effectively with customers who are frustrated with a company, service, or product.
Coaching Strength
Reflects the candidate's temperament and most likely ability to mentor or counsel others toward improved performance on the job.
Trainer
Reflects the candidate's knowledge of the best ways to teach or educate others on procedures, processes, or equipment.
Humble
Indicates whether the candidate holds a realistic, modest view of their own abilities without arrogance or the need to be right.
Managing Fear
Measures the candidate's understanding of fear as a factor in the role and their willingness to confront rather than avoid it.
Communication (IC Ability)
Reflects the candidate's understanding of how to convey an idea clearly and effectively to another person.
Assertive (Ability)
Measures the degree to which the candidate believes that being bold and saying what is on their mind is the best way to approach others.
Questioner
Indicates the degree of importance the candidate places on listening to others before acting or responding.
Confront People (Ability)
Measures how much the candidate understands and values the importance of addressing offensive behavior or uncomfortable situations directly.
Initiative
Indicates how strongly the candidate values and understands the importance of acting on their own without waiting to be told.
Best Practice: Review each trait individually before interpreting the composite score. A candidate with strong Customer Service Strength but low Supervisor Strength may excel in front-line roles while struggling in positions that require directing others.
Most Failed Hires Fail Because of Attitude, Not Skills
A LeadershipIQ study of 5,247 hiring managers across 312 organizations found that 89 % of new hire failures were caused by behavioral issues, not a lack of technical competence.
The pattern is consistent across industries: the interpersonal behaviors that predict long-term success are largely invisible in interviews and during early observation.
26%
Coachability: inability to accept feedback
23%
Emotional intelligence: difficulty managing emotions under pressure
17%
Motivation: insufficient drive to produce results
15%
Temperament: poor fit with role or organizational culture
11%
Technical skills: insufficient job-specific competence

How to Interpret People Traits Results
The People Traits average score reflects how well a candidate understands people behavior and knows how to work with others.
The three bands below consolidate the six defined score ranges into broad performance tiers to orient your interpretation before reviewing the full breakdown.
Low
Foundational people-oriented competency is absent or unreliable. These candidates lack the working knowledge needed for interpersonal roles.
Borderline
People competency is present at a basic level but consistently falls below what effective interpersonal performance requires.
Strong
People-oriented competency is consistent and reliable across supervisory, interpersonal, and customer-facing roles.
The six defined score ranges below give the actionable detail behind these bands.
What to Do Based on Your Results
This score indicates the candidate was guessing or lacks foundational understanding of people-oriented work. Do not advance for any role requiring interpersonal competency without a structured follow-up evaluation.
A low average signals limited foundational competency. Review individual trait scores to determine whether any specific area is strong enough to offset the composite result before proceeding.
Borderline scores fall consistently below what is associated with effective people-handling. For roles requiring supervision, coaching, or regular customer contact, treat this result as a meaningful concern.
An OK average is acceptable for positions with moderate interpersonal demands. Confirm that the role's specific requirements align with this level before advancing, as this score is not sufficient for executive or senior supervisory roles.
A Good score indicates the candidate is generally competent in people-oriented situations. Confirm through behavioral interview questions that the strongest individual traits match the primary demands of the role.
An Excellent score predicts consistent and reliable people competency. These candidates are strong fits for supervision, coaching, and high-contact customer roles. Review individual traits to confirm the best placement.
Assessment results support your hiring decisions, they do not replace them. Always read the People Traits score alongside the full profile and your role benchmarks before drawing a conclusion.
Which Assessments Evaluate People Traits?
Both Aptitude Assessments measure People Traits as part of the complete candidate profile. For roles where interpersonal competency is the primary focus, a companion aptitude test adds a second layer of validation from a different angle.
Sales, People & Logic Assessment
Evaluates people-handling ability alongside sales aptitude and leadership competency. Best for supervisory, managerial, and client-facing roles where directing and motivating others is part of the position.
Aptitude & People Skills – IC Ability Assessment
An aptitude-based test that measures how well a candidate understands people behavior and how to work effectively with others. Best paired with the IC Behavioral Assessment for a complete picture of interpersonal readiness.

Frequently Asked Questions
Integrity & Attitude is one of three primary dimensions measured by the IC and SL Behavioral Assessments from Discovered Assessments, alongside Personality and People Traits. It has nothing to do with technical production abilities — instead, it predicts how well a candidate will get along with their supervisor, fit into the team, and contribute to the well-being of the company. A high percentage of employees who rate poorly on Integrity & Attitude end up quitting or being terminated. The assessment captures how their integrity and attitude will look after the honeymoon period is over.
